Review

“An intricate, splendid, and utterly memorable book.”—The New York Times Book Review“Warm, human, rich with a cacophony of Indian voices, India: A Million Mutinies Now is about the passions and tragedies of a nation caught between the rush of modernity and the power of tradition. . . . An indispensable book for understanding India at the end of the 20th century.”—The Washington Post“Brilliantly penetrating and shrewd. . . . Each story, evoked by Naipaul’s sensitive and nuanced probing, reflects complexities and contradictions and gives us a glimpse, however tiny, of the mosaic totality that comprises India.”—The Chicago Tribune “Beautifully written, intellectually satisfying. . . . Naipaul is a rare combination of born narrator, who brings to life the places and people he encounters.”—Foreign Affairs“Compassionate. . . . Leaves the reader with a powerful sense of [a] people’s dedication, perseverance and passion.”—The New York Times “Travel writing, history, novel, lyric—Naipaul’s book partakes of the excellence of every category and fulfills itself in one of the oldest and rarest of forms—prophecy. It bears witness, in unforgettable language, to the best of hopes in the worst of times.”—The Christian Science Monitor “Naipaul has retired the familiar, infuriating, immobile face of India and painted a fresh one of human spirit and dramatic change.”—Time “A shifting kaleidoscope of images of a country almost impossible to imagine, but made more comprehensible due to Naipaul’s formidable intelligence and prodigious narrative gifts.”—Boston Sunday Herald “Naipaul creates his India slowly, through whole life-stories told in the characters’ own voices. . . . The detail is wonderful, built up with impeccable care.”—The Economist “[Naipaul] has invaluably revealed the brink on which India now stands, the sources of all that rage and all those little mutinies. . . . There is a powerful feeling of change in this book.”—Los Angeles Times “Compelling, almost hypnotic. . . . A rich, multilayered portrait of a nation we know far too little about in the West. You will feel you have learned much about India, yet you will sense how much more—how very much more—remains to be learned.”—Seattle Times “Authentic. . . . These narratives record, in human terms, the rich and disturbing diversity of contemporary India. . . . Extraordinary.”—Newsday “There is a great temptation to quote too much of Naipaul, for in reading the novelist, essayist and travel writer we realize the accuracy of those who consider him one of the finest writers in the language; a man with intense intellectual curiosity, as well as an inherited sympathy for inhabitants of the Third World.”—The Oregonian “A superb raga of a book, a raga of morning curiosity and evening meditation. . . . This may be [Naipaul’s] most generous work, and his best non-fiction.”—The San Diego Union-Tribune “An absorbing journey through the mind of India. . . . Mutinies will surprise those who have read and ranted at Naipaul’s earlier books on India.”—St. Petersburg Times “Brilliant.”—The Spectator (London) “In-depth. . . . Beautifully written, this book gives a personal look at the societal and political forces pushing for change in the country.”—Minneapolis Star Tribune “Prescient. . . . Naipaul’s intuitions and indefatigable on-the-spot research were well ahead of the academic reaction. . . . [He is] a writer who will always be read—and not just by academics—for his intelligence and insight and for the clarity and elegance of his style.”—The Times Higher Education Supplement “One of the most intelligent writers of our time. . . . Naipaul’s word-pictures of India are lyrical, spare, precise and vivid. . . . He succeeds—brilliantly—in integrating India’s individual truths with a larger picture of the country.”—The Toronto Star

The description fails to make clear that this is a collection of essays, arranged by subject matter. Most were published originally in the New York Review of Books. Read together they result in a book choppy, turgid, and a bit repetitive in its concerns. Read individually, as originally intended, they are fine. So if you buy the book, read one at a time then put it down for a few days. These essays are forty years old now. For the most part their topics -- the nature of Indian civilization and the Indian mindset, M. Gandhi's attitudes and development, and his effect on Indian society -- remain timely. But the frequent references to the Emergency no longer have any real relevance, especially since the event is unexplained (because the NYRB's readers at the time were aware of it).

Nobel prize winner V.S. Naipaul's masterpiece on India is a must-read for any Westerner seeking a deeper understanding of India. Naipaul tells the story of this incredibly complex country person by person, through in-depth interviews of his subjects not on politics, culture or religion but on their personal lives. Naipaul tells the stories of a wide range of characters--a secretary to a prominent businessman, members of the Bombay underworld, a Marxist rebel. He tells the story of Amir, the descendant of the Raja of Mahmudabad, now living in the palace his ancestors had gotten from the British, lost after Partition, and regained after he became a successful Muslim politician in a Hindu area. And the story of Kakusthan, a modern man who returned to tradition and the life of a pure Brahmin, in a ghetto surrounded by a Muslim neighborhood. And the story of Ashok, who rejected an arranged marriage, managed to break into marketing as a career, and now struggled with the decline of the genteel, Anglo business world he had grown up in. Naipaul's great talent is in ferreting out the details of everyday life--what his people ate, wore, above all where they lived--often in tiny 10' by 10' rooms with wife and children. One comes away with a great appreciation of the notion of caste, so embedded in the society and culture for religious and non-religious alike. One also begins to appreciate what a struggle life in India is for everyone, especially those who live in cities. This book is full of stories of struggle--against tradition, to preserve tradition, between castes, between Hindu and Muslim--and of more down to earth struggles--to find a job, to find housing, to choose a career. Unfortunately Naipaul wasn't able to interview women with the ease he interviewed men--not surprising in this traditional society--and women appear only as shadowy wives and mothers in the narrative. But a great book nevertheless.

The author is very honest in his opinion. However sometimes I found him to be insensitive as he showed a tendency to undermine the feelings of people in the subcontinent in general. However, it is better to be truthful than 'politically correct'.

The country of India is of sufficient importance to all of us today that there is a real need for resources to help us develop a greater understanding, whether we are a traveler, business person working with India, or simply one interested in becoming more informed, such as myself. I don't expect that to be accomplished by only one book, so the challenge is to select a couple of volumes which together can do the job. For myself, this book is one that I have selected to help my own understanding of India.India: A Million Mutinies Now was originally published in 1990, and this edition brings it back into availability, with a new preface by the author. It is the third volume of a trilogy written by Naipaul on India, the first two being An Area of Darkness, and India: A Wounded Civilization. It does date back 20 years, and for that reason does not take into account the many developments and changes in India since that time, so if you must have something that reflects today's India in all respects, this may fall short in some ways.Author V. S. Naipaul (2001 Nobel Prize in Literature) is acclaimed both for his fiction and non-fiction. He was born in Chaguanas, Trinidad and Tobago, to parents of Indian descent. In this book, he describes India through a series of stories covering people from many castes and different backgrounds. As these various individuals stories are told, and as you begin to grasp how they deal with the day-to-day problems of living in an overcrouded country, and surviving within the caste system still in place, you find that your understanding of India is beginning to come together. It is a long book (500+ pages), full of interesting vignettes and covering a very wide variety of individuals from all walks of Indian life.If you are considering purchase of this book, then I would also refer you to the Amazon comments to the earlier 1990 edition (India: A Million Mutinies Now), which remain valid for this new printing. As alternates or supplements to this book, I would also suggest India: A Portrait, recently issued, and I am sure that there are many others. I will continue to add to this review if I do come across other books that I feel should also be mentioned.

I feel such a downer to write this review. I really expected to like this book, but I don't. I celebrated Saint Lucia Day with my young sons (5 and 3) last year by bringing them tea and scones in bed with candlelight. They loved it. I knew nothing about Saint Lucia apart from what I read as a young girl in the American Girl Kristen books. It was so special and magical to me from that story alone that I decided to celebrate Saint Lucia Day with my sons. This year I wanted them to have a story to connect to Saint Lucia and give us a better understanding of this festival. A few reviews commented on language and maturity of this book and another about the emphasis on going to church. Going to church does not make this book more familiar or comfortable. Even with our church background this book was overly mature and not the story I was expecting. The whole conversation between the mother and daughter feels very contrived. I also bought Lucia Morning in Sweden and I am hoping when it arrives I will like it better, otherwise I recommend Kristen's Surprise: A Christmas Story. I haven't read it in years, but it left me with a sense of wonder and awe about Saint Lucia day when I was a little girl. I would not read this book to young children, maybe 10? Two stars for illustrations and sheet music at end of story. For spoilers and a long review please read on.Lucia, Saint of Light, starts out fine with four children preparing a Lucia breakfast for their parents, the oldest, Lucy, is Saint Lucia, her sisters are her attendants and her brothers are dressed up in star boy hats and carrying star boy poles (That was interesting. I didn't know anything about star-boys, please explain. Well it never did.) The children carry breakfast to their parents while singing a Saint Lucia song. The family continues their celebration of the day bringing breakfast to an elderly neighbor from Sweden. All of that was fine and I read it to my, now, six year old son, but then I very briefly skimmed, rephrased and summarized the rest of the book (14 more pages with pictures).Once when Lucy was younger she asked her mother for the story about Saint Lucia and then you get to read what feels like a very staged conversation between the mother and daughter. Things like,"St. Lucia was born late in the third century in the Roman Empire and was raised to be a Christian.""But wasn't it against the law to be a Christian back then?"My mother smiled. "You've been paying attention to the saints' lives in church haven't you?"Really? Other phrases such as "she loved God so much that she didn't want to marry anyone but her heavenly Bridegroom, Jesus Christ." Maybe this isn't awkward language for some Christian families, but that is not how I would have phrased her desire to devote her life to God. As another reviewer stated "pleased with her desire to remain a virgin." I also could not think of an appropriate way to explain that to my six year old son. And the mother explains how Saint Lucia gave away here dowry and a girl couldn't be married without a dowry. Then Lucy pipes in, " Like the Saint Nicholas story! Saint Nicholas left money in their stockings so they could get married." "That's right." My sons know the Saint Nicholas story too and they would easily make that connection, so it is weird to read something that explains something that they already know. Just to read that to them would sound demeaning. Then again not all families know the Saint Nicholas story, so this could be an introduction that, for some, would feel less contrived. Then we read how she was arrested for being a Christian and the Holy Spirit came down on her so that she was so heavy she could not be moved by the Roman soldiers, nor by several yoke of oxen, nor did the fire touch her when they tried to burn her. Well that was all very interesting and worth reading....until I turned the page."Finally, one of the soldiers drove his sword into her throat. Lucia said one last prayer, then gave up her spirit into the hands of her heavenly Bridegroom. She was buried with honor and became the patron saint of her city, Syracuse."Wait....they drove a sword into her throat?! This is not what I was trying to accomplish. I just wanted a story about the bread and the candles. For those of you wanting details of her holy life this might be what you wanted, but I just read of her life and death and nowhere did it mention a crown of candles and bread.Lucy asks why she is the patron saint of Sweden. Mother explains, Saint Lucia saved Sweden from a terrible famine during the darkest day of a most terrible winter sailing in a boat across a lake during the middle ages. Lucy interjects some more, mother explains some more. Now I'm confused. When did this happen exactly? This happened after she died? The book is not really clear. There are two sentences in the book that tell the story that I was hoping this book would be about."There was also a legend that Lucia used to visit Christians hiding in the catacombs. In order to keep her hands free to carry food she brought them, she wore candles on her head." That was it. They go on to explain the meaning of her name, the white dress, red sash, Lucia cats (breakfast buns), and the coffee. End of story. Two stars for great illustrations and the lovely sheet music "Santa Lucia" at the end and there is a recipe for Lucia Cats included as well as many resources. I considered saving this until my sons were older, but I'll probably donate it to the library. I will quote the one star reviewer. "Oy. What a crappy book."

We are very happy with this book because it explains both the origins of the St. Lucia story and her martyrdom as well as the modern day traditions that are common among Swedes today. Included are the traditional St. Lucia song with music and also a recipe for saffron buns. It answered a lot of questions I had about the holiday and is an interesting story! The only thing I didn't care for were some of the supernatural descriptions of St. Lucia and her survival/death/miracles. However, since that is how the legend goes it makes sense for it to be in the book. Definitely read through first before reading it to kids to make sure it gets with your beliefs.

I wanted to like this book better than I did. I felt that the text was affected and unnatural. Kids under 7 probably won't notice. It has lovely pictures, though, some recipes and it's a good way to provide some background to the feast day.

I love the illustrations in this book. It is very in depth and a lovely story. I would have liked to see the story told more "succinctly". It is a little long and too descriptive for my young kids. I tried to read this to a group of preschoolers/young elementary kids at a Lucia party we had and I lost their attention pretty quickly. I think this is more appropriate for older elementary ages - 8+.

Wanted to use as a read aloud - however, this book is a little too religious and too wordy for second grade. I think sections of it are great

My culture, my heritage

Both my 3 and 4 year old love this book. I think that they appreciate the pictures and are curious of this is also a tradition we should start at home. It covers the saint in the context of a little girl who's family celebrates the feast of St. Lucy every year with some traditions of cooking and the lighted wreath.

It is wonderful to find orthodox children's books. My children enjoy the stories of the saints, but a book with pictures keeps my children's attention better.

I always wonder, someone in Hollywood reads a book, falls on love with it and thinks "This would make a great movie". Then they proceed to change pretty much the entire story until it is barely recognizable as the source material. Is it studio bigwigs interfering or simply hubris? Either way the end is nearly always the same with the book being much better than the film.I didn't hate Kevin Costner's The Postman. I kind of like the movie but it could have been SO much better if it had adhered to the book more than it did. (It is far enough away from this book that it only vaguely resembles it).If you liked the movie, read the book, if you hate the movie, read the book.

I picked up this book because as a teenager I loved the movie. The movie The Postman, starring Kevin Costner, came out in 1997, and was one of my first exposures to the post apocalyptic genre. It was based on this book which was published in 1985. So recently I decided to read the novel. It’s much better than the movie, of course, when isn’t the novel better than the movie? With the novel we are able to get much more in depth descriptions and the characters are fleshed out with descriptive back stories. There was a lot left out of the movie, this novel is so much more than the movie even dreamed of being. The Postman is a novel about hope, and the effect hope can have on a community.Visit my blog for more in depth reviews and recommendations.

A favorite post apocalyptic book by a favorite author of the Uplift Wars and many others...I think I read this when it came out, perhaps 35-40 years ago. Bought it for my 12 yo, perhaps too advanced, but he reads at college level and has read hundreds of books so far. Not sure if this is more or less disturbing than Ender's Game, but similarly has a deep moral message. I've since seen movies that seem to try to play the context and theme treated in this book, but they always disappoint compared to my memory of this remarkable story. I remember crying and laughing and wanting to share it... perhaps I was still young, but I bought it on kindle so both of us could read it. Please let me know if this fuzzy recollection was helpful to you.

Some years ago there was a movie titled “The Postman” with Kevin Costner that was loosely based on this novel by science fiction writer David Brin. There is nothing science fiction about The Postman. It’s a post-apocalyptic story that plays in Oregon. The book was first copyrighted in 1985 and Brin, being a science fiction writer, created an all-out nuclear war that took place in the early 1990-ies and that brought down civilization worldwide.I like to read science fiction written about a time way in the future from the writer’s present perspective, which also happens to be the present time for me. To do that, you have to not read a new book for 25 or more years. This story takes place in the 2010 to 2012 timeframe, referencing the war that took place 16 years before the start of the story. The immediate aftermath of the war caused a three-year-winter and lawlessness. Massive extinction took crops, animals and people. In the U.S., the government collapsed, and civilization was reduced to marauding bands of violent survivalists and homesteaders who sometimes banded together for mutual support and protection in small communities.Gordon Krantz, the protagonist, is a lone survivor who wandered from St. Paul all the way to eastern Oregon over a period of 16 years, keeping a journal of his travels, surviving somehow off the scraps left by a looted civilization. When the story begins he is robbed of all his possessions by bandits that outnumbered and outgunned him. Faced with imminent death from freezing and starvation in winter in the mountains in eastern Oregon, he must get creative quickly. When he stumbles upon a corpse of a former postman in a Post Office Jeep, he takes the uniform for warmth and the bag as a container – and then he has an idea that changes his life and that of all the people he encounters.Like in most apocalypse stories, there must be some evil besides just the natural disasters that cause impossible situations for the people. In Stephen King’s The Stand, that’s Randall Flagg, the dark lord that takes over Las Vegas and builds an evil empire. In The Postman, the evil people are, ironically, the remaining militant survivalists who concentrated in the Pacific Northwest before the war, digging bunkers, hoarding supplies and ammunition, training in hunting and warfare, with the sole objective to survive in the case of a holocaust. As it turns out, the survivalists, due to competition with each other, pretty much kill each other off, but in the end, after things settle down, they have coalesced into an empire of abuse, slavery, and exploitation – feudalism in the American mainland. And they go to war against the villages and settlements who try to survive against all odds and build a new civilization.Gordon, unwittingly and not really a hero, through the circumstances he creates for himself, becomes key to the solution of this conflict. The Postman is a captivating read, stronger in the first two-thirds of the book which deals with his discoveries. Things get complicated in the end, and the climax is somewhat quick with a deus-ex-machina-flavored solution in the end.Overall, The Postman is a good, credible and entertaining story of a post-apocalyptic America.

I've liked science fiction my whole life, and it's currently popular to do the whole post-collapse thing, but I always chuckle a little at the idea that one person (or even one small group) surviving with toilet paper intact and plenty of ammo somehow means victory over chaos. Civilization is a large group, cooperating for the benefit of all, and identifying with each other as "all of us, together". This book is about creating that, from the scattered pieces of post-collapse.I wasn't a fan of the movie. I've seen Kevin Costner play the reluctant curmudgeon-hero just once too often. This book isn't the movie.

This book is the first fiction book I have really enjoyed in many years. I had come to the conclusion that no one can write good stories anymore (well, this was written in 1985 so maybe that is still true). I have been unable to put this book down - I haven't done that since...well a long time ago. Good writing, easy to read, a few words I have had to look up, and a compelling story that is very different than the movie (better than the movie, at least so far - I still have to finish the story).

This is the best programming book ever written. The language could not be more clear. New generation authors of books about programming languages should take this book as a model on properly teaching how to program.

I looked around in class, and every body had small compact, smooth, and colored books.(same material). Am the only one who had this bulky, black&white, big boring book. This is not the original book, its just printed sheets which make it too big & heavy to handle. It looks so funny, i don't know why 2 people gave a 5-star. I should have 1st read the one-star reviews before i bought it. But I was too late........

I bought this textbook as new here on Amazon. It arrived on time, but the condition is poor. The cover is damaged, making the textbook look as if it were used instead of new. I have had good experiences on my previous purchases. My previous purchases had arrived on time and in great condition. I have never before received damaged products from Amazon, until now. I am disappointed and slightly angry as this is not a cheap book. I paid the price of a new textbook, but got the quality of an used book. FORTRAN 77 for Engineers and Scientists with an Introduction to FORTRAN 90 (4th Edition)

I is what I expected.

I'm a college freshman who took a course that needed this book. I would say that the price and condition wise of the product sent to me is great, but I don't know if the content's helpful or not. Overall, I'll give this product a 5-star for it's price and condition.

I wrote a premature about this product. They claimed the product was in "acceptable" condition, but it was completely falling apart! I will never buy from them AGAIN...EVER!

Excelente

I have been using this book to teach an introductory university-level mechanical engineering class that emphasizes computer programming. This book adequately covers all important topics in Fortran and contains many real-world engineering applications (such as solving for roots). The examples are well commented, which is great for students who are beginning to learn how to program.I feel that this book is designed for someone who has very little experience in computer programming and I would not recommend this book to someone who is already well-versed in other computer languages. A much smaller book, such as "Schaum's Outline of Programming With Fortran 77 (Schaum's Outlines)," would be better for advanced programmers who want to learn Fortran.

Labor in the Global Digital Economy: The Cybertariat Comes of Age

Review

"Following on her brilliant The Making of a Cybertariat, a modern classic in the analysis of class and gender, work and consumption, Huws turns her sharp eye to the present crisis into which the cybertariat ‘has come of age.’ Rich in theoretical and methodological insights, Labor in the Global Digital Economy carefully guides us through the world of transnational business, value chains, creative, precarious and knowledge labor, self-service consumers, and consumption workers. Challenging accepted thinking and providing enough wisdom to fill several volumes, Huws has once again demonstrated her preeminence among analysts of work and inequality in digital capitalism."-Vincent Mosco, author, To the Cloud: Big Data in a Turbulent World"As always, Huws has a treasury of insights to offer. Use this book as a manual for understanding how the alliance of capital and digitization is reshaping the landscape of labor."-Andrew Ross, author, Creditocracy and the Case for Debt Refusal"Ursula Huws is a global treasure: her essays collected here continue her several decades of scholarship analyzing the impact of technological change on women and workers. This book brings her prescient Marxist feminist theorizing to a wider audience. It is a must read for anyone who cares about what the future holds for workers in the digital era."-Gina Neff, author, Venture Labor: Work and the Burden of Risk in Innovative Industries

Really great read and perfect for women coming into a relationship with no children of her own. Most stepmom books seem to focus (at least from what I've read) on generality and many aren't of the perspective specifically if the woman does not have kids of her own. Keep in mind when reading these books that we all have our own experiences so I have to remind myself that just because other examples/scenarios played out a certain way or challenging, that that doesn't indicate that my experience with my step kids will also be 100% that way. Keep your head up, stay positive and if you truly invest in spending time with the kids and getting on their level that you'll build the respect you both want and need.

I've found this book to be a great introduction to step parenting for someone who doesn't have kids, doesn't plan on having kids, and never planned on them in the first place. Jacquelyn incorporates anecdotal situations from a variety of step parenting families that she's interviewed which covers the spectrum of situations (on good terms with bio-mom, not on good terms with bio-mom, young kids, old kids, etc.) She uses business terminology to introduce concepts of step parenting, but you don't have to be a corporate type to understand or appreciate them. The book also includes lists and examples of things you need to talk to your partner about, and I found them to be helpful conversation starters.

For any woman following a successful professional career path, while at the same time approaching the dauntingly complex web of stepmotherhood, this book provides invaluable advise and direction toward a safe, concrete plan of approach to becoming a stepmother. I found many great points in this book even though this is about the third book on stepmothering I have read, My favorite part is at the end of each chapter, she provides questions for both yourself and your partner to discuss together in regards to the topics covered in each section. This book has helped me to solidify my approach to a situation that previously I found to be expectantly negative in general, in a manner that gives me the confidence I usually only reserve for work. I now look forward to finding my place in my new family. Highly recommended!

This past fall I married a man with 2 children from a previous marriage - hence entering the world of stepmotherhood. I never ever thought I'd be here. I had spent the better majority of my life working hard to further my career and continue to find that part of my life both rewarding and very fulfilling. I knew likely I would marry - I had great interest in the companionship and lifelong partnership that would bring. But I have never had quite the same desire to be a mom, let alone a stepmom. Life has a funny way of interjecting an alternate path when you least expect it!Since I met the kids almost 4 years ago, and knowing my relationship with their father was going to be serious, I started searching for support help and doing a lot of reading. But so much out there just never felt like it fit me...negativity, horror stories, or just basic differences - like me not bringing any kids into the equation on my side. I felt like the odd man out, and often felt more alien to stepmotherhood (or the possibility of it) than before I started reading. It is an ongoing "battle" for me. There are some days where I feel very confident in my role as stepmom. There are other days (many more than I would like to admit) where I feel out of sorts and paralyzed almost by the two kids running through my house. But with this book my feelings were very different. I found myself affirming some of the lines with noticeable head nods and even outloud comments like "I'm not the only one" and "I knew it wasn't just me." It was great. It was like finding a positive, comforting and empathetic friend who spoke with candor and honesty but also with heart and passion for making stepmotherhood more welcoming, more understood, and most importantly, more valued than it often is.So many stepmoms, especially those who bring no children of their own into the relationship, struggle to find their place with the children. And also come to terms with what this change means for them - both with their husband and with their career/independent life. My big struggle continues to be how to balance my professional life - which is probably the best it's ever been right now - with a personal life that to some extent, I never imagined myself a part of. But slowly, each day gets better, a little easier, more comfortable. Thanks largely in part to a very strong, supportive husband.Ms. Fletcher's book was refreshing, positive, and very helpful. Put it at the top of your list if you are going to be involved as a stepmother, now or in the future. Few take on the topic like Jacque does.

Great book for women, who like me are completely new to the family world. Taking on my partner and his son after years of being single was a huge shock and I couldn't understand why my emotions and rationality had completely gone out the window. This book helped me understand why I felt the way I did and methods to help me adapt. My relationship with my partner and stepson is now stronger than ever.

This is a great book for both stepmoms and step moms to be! I am in a serious relationship with a man with a toddler and this book was extremely helpful! It does a wonderful job of validating all the negative and challenging feelings (feelings I didnt even know others had too!) that comes with being in the step mom role but doesn't allow you to wallow in pity-and it's done in such an empowering and encouraging way. Jacque provides practical and reasonable solutions to handle a variety of challenges in an honest and endearing way that often ends up making you smile. This book hit so close to home and provided great opportunities for me and my boyfriend to talk and have a better understanding of each others perspective. Read the book, ladies! Your soul will be lifted, I promise!

I am in serious relationship with a man who has 3 children. I'm only 30 pages into this book and have already dog-eared more than 5 pages. I relate so much to how the woman feel in this book and it has really opened my eyes up to what I'm really getting myself into. If you are struggling with being a stepmom or possibly becoming a stepmom, then this book is for you!! You will feel so much better having something to relate to. Also my boyfriend is very interested in reading it with me so it isn't just for the stepmom/soon to be stepmom but also the significant other too! Great book!!!!! =)
