This is a fabulous book, and I love the video that comes with the book! The book explains everything I needed to make several perfect loaves of bread. I did not have to go out and purchase A bunch of strange thing is that I would not use for other recipes. All the loaves were scrumptious.

We have Dough and this is a great continuation for getting into the 'next-level' of baking.I like the instructions (both in the book and DVD) a lot. As a relatively novice baker it helps get the confidence to experiment.Also, reminds me of spending a weekend in Bath with Mr Bertinet 15-years ago at his school.

This is a follow-up to "Dough" and still is must for anyone household or culinarian looking into developing and better developing the skills of bread making, make sure you get the book with the DVD, it helps a lot in spite of the many step by step pictures in the book.

I'm still learning how to use this new method for kneading, but the recipes are wonderful. The DVD that comes with this book is awesome. I am someone that learns by visual and audible combination. The combination of the book and the DVD are perfect for me.

Pure Bertinet style, he manages to get you from zero to baking awesome loafs in hours.

Nobody beats Richard Bertinet. What else is there to say?

Overall an interesting read, though with some issues. First, the title, while meant to engage and intrigue the reader, is kind of presenting a false assumption. He is assuming that most any biblical sounding writing should have been included in the "Holy Scriptures," regardless of its content or acceptance in culture and history. While he does not push that issue throughout the book, the implication is still there, and the book falls short of making the case for that implication.Basically, the book examines a handful of extra-biblical historical writings, and how their inclusion in today's accepted biblical books would have added to the biblical narrative. His analysis of such writings as the Book of Adam and Eve, Apocalypse of Abraham, Book of Enoch, and writings of Josephus provided some interesting insights.He didn't really discuss in any depth the reasons these books were rejected, but seems to just assume their contents to be historically and supernaturally accurate and therefore worthy to be consider biblical canon, so that was a let down. But his examination at least provided some insight into what these writings contain, which is beneficial for those not familiar with these writings.I especially enjoyed the section on Josephus the most, as it provided information of a more historical aspect. Aside from that, much of the rest was hit or miss for me. While he didn't avoid or totally ignore the supernatural and God aspect, I felt throughout that he was often came across as if he was essentially ignoring God and the supernatural, and leaning more on a naturalist and human empowered approach to some conclusions.In the end, I do not think he necessarily made a strong enough case for why these books definitely belong in the Bible, but Hoffman simply discusses what they bring to the table in adding to the story. I guess, based on the title, that I was expecting more of a defense for their inclusion, but that is not what we are given here.I think what we do have is an interesting look into the contents of some of these extra-biblical writings, and how including them may impact today's understanding of some 0aspects of biblical theology.

Dr. Hoffman writes like he must talk. I felt he was personally in the room talking to me. Very clear, precise language. Thank you, Dr. Hoffman!

While not a great deal of the content is new to the lifelong serious Bible scholar, Hoffman has done an excellent presentation of how the Bible came to be and helping the reader to understand that God did not fax His final draft of the Bible to King James in 1611. Hoffman helps the reader to understand the truth beyond the fact in ancient Scripture and leads us from worshiping the book to seeing the God the book reveals. While I am sure there will be a score of tantrums in religious circles among those who have never seriously studied their Bibles, for the person wishing to become more biblically literate Hoffman's book is very helpful. We don't agree on all points, but Hoffman opens for discovery that which many have considered closed, wrapped up and boxed.

This is a thoroughly researched and well written essay on the subject of Bible translation, and other early Hebraic and Christian texts from the biblical era. Rather than shake your confidence in your Bible, let this work give you additional insight and information to compliment your study of the Word.

The best chapters were 5 and 6 which dealt with Adam and Eve and Abraham. Much of the information throughout the book, though, had been printed elsewhere in other publications that I had read before.It was a good read and review, but not as fresh as I had hoped.

Starts off slow but ends up with information not included in bible. Should expand bible with some of the books mentioned to inform you of the times and practices back than. Very enlightening.

The book was just okay. I found the first few chapters repeating things and boring details that were not necessary. However the last half of the book I found to be fascinating and good read.

Filled with exciting insights, analysis, and comparison of major elements in the Talmud and Bible. This is an excellent book that fills in the gaps.

NO, this is the worst Hagadah; a goof on the Trump administration and disrespectful of a Jewish Holiday of major importance. Doesn't matter if you are a democrat or republican this book makes a mockery of both Passover and the Presidency. The book clearly is an anti-Trump joy-ride and will not appeal to supporters of the current administration. The problem is if you are a Democrat, the book is still not appealing because it is insulting to the Jewish Holiday of Passover in the way it presents prayers and Sedar components. It even denigrates Moses and Miriam. Pass on buying this one and stick to a traditional Hagadah that you can use with personal interjection of pro or anti Trump comments.

very petty and not funny

Great disappointment! I hoped to see some good humor, jokes and self-oriented ironical statements - all those things Jews always do perfectly. Unfortunately, the book is not funny, not original and definitely not intellectual. The joke attempts are miserable (Dave, not every statement including "shiksa" is funny). This is not liberal and not Jewish.It is clear that the only goal of the author was to criticize the US President, and his failure to achieve it is clear as well. Is that superficial "Donald is bad, he is very bad, he is bad-bad-bad" all you can say? If it is, then Trump is the best current US President in the world! The book is irrelevant though you for some reason call it "irreverent". On other hand, the book is really irreverent to its readers.Hey, Dave, if this book is the best you can write, do yourself a favor and don't publish anything anymore!My last remark. You use a photo made at the holy site #1 in the world. The people appearing in the photo are widely recognized leaders of their congregations (well, two of them really are, and the 3rd wants to be). And you name it after one of the most sacred books. Some people may find usage of the photo and the name on the cover of the "humorous" book inappropriate and insulting.

Truly fantastic! A tremendous, tremendous achievement. This Dave Cowan guy is a very funny guy and also extremely smart, though not as smart as me but still very, very smart. Way up there. I loved this story. While there were multiple elements of Pride and Prejudice, I enjoyed the modern twist that brought up very important issues. Our experiences and circumstances shape us in a way, whether we are trying to fit into our environment or trying to purposely stand apart from it. While we may share parts of our cultural identity with others, that doesn't always make us the same. This book took on thoughts around cultural identity, socioeconomic status, and what we think it means to be black, rich, etc. How we judge whether someone is enough, or whether they meet our standard of a cultural identity.Â There is also this underlying idea of accepting and being proud of who you are, but also not being afraid of change that is inevitable.Another topic I thought was beautifully handdled was the many facets of gentrification. This is a real and relevant issue, because many of us disregard what is different, orÂ history that may not include us, yet is still so important. We tend to just want to improve things the way we think they should be improved (which is not always the best for everyone else).Which leads me to one of my favorite parts of this book, the family dynamics of the Benitez's. They celebrate their culture identity, and the history of their neighborhood. They treat neighbors as family, and truly care about others. They support each other in such a beautiful way. Honestly, the connection is just inspiring. I would definitely recommend this book!

Itâ€™s hard for me to rate this novel because I donâ€™t think Iâ€™m the target demographic. However being the Janeite, that I am, with a lifelong obsession with P&P, this novel made me realize some things about Lizzy that I never had before. Zuri, isnâ€™t the most instantly likeable character in the world- sheâ€™s bossy, a knowitall, incredibly judgmental and closed-minded, unwilling to try new things, in a way that Jane Austen never quite revealed about Elizabeth Bennet. The family, the Benitezâ€™s is just as cringey, as the Bennettâ€™s and overall, this is pretty accurately a YAF urban, adaptation of Pride and Prejudice.The writing of this is done in Zuriâ€™s voice and so even when sheâ€™s being obnoxious, you get to go on the journey through the book with her. Zuri rides hard for Brooklyn and so as readers, this reads as a love letter to Brooklyn and not just Brooklyn in general, the particular section of Brooklyn where ZZ and her family are from. Zuri is somewhat of a poet, so there are a lot of poetry breaks within this novel, as poetry seems to be how the main character processes her thoughts and emotions and the poems are overall pretty good.The themes of this novel go beyond class and prejudice and perceptions and preconceived notions to address the issue of gentrification of traditionally ethnic neighborhoods and how that affects the people who live there. Another major issue in this novel is race and racial relations between black people of different socioeconomic statuses and to a lesser extent between black and white people. I think there are some pretty heavy topics covered in what is basically a YA love story that make it pretty essential reading for young people of all races in contemporary America.This was a slow starter for me as a novel. Whilst I could readily recognize the plot trajectory and characters, I found them all universally bland for the first third of the book and would have given this maybe two stars. However, Iâ€™m glad I stuck with this long enough to discover what was actually a pretty enjoyable read. It wasnâ€™t excellent by any means, but it was at least a 3.5-star read overall and possibly even 4-stars if someone is actually in the YA demographic.

Perhaps the most famous so far is Anne Tyler's VINEGAR GIRL her take on THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.Zoboi sets her version in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn where Yuppies are changing the familiar landscape. The protagonist is Zuri Benitez who lives with her four sisters in an apartment across from a remodeled mini-mansion. A twist on our expectations is that an upper class black family is moving in, and the two boys are really handsome. Her sister, Janae, falls for Ainsley right away. Darius Darcy acts like he's too good for the girls.So . . . we know what to expect. Zuri is Elizabeth Bennett and she will eventually fall for Darius, who unbeknownst to us already likes her. She finds out for sure when they both make a college visit, she at Howard, him at Georgetown in Washington DC. His sister Gigi also goes to boarding school in Washington DC, a minor plot device. He compliments her on a poem she reads at a college hangout when she notices him in the audience.Zuri is a proud black American, and she's not about to fall for some boy just because he's rich and good-looking, and she's deeply offended when one of Darius's relatives implies exactly that. Zoboi overdoes this aspect of Zuri's personality. A boy from the projects, with whom she goes on a â€œnot a dateâ€ says he's always wanted to â€œget withâ€ one of the fat a**sed Benitez girls, and she doesn't hand him his head. It's unusual that Zuri is so touchy since Janae, the oldest, doesn't do that at all, nor do her little sisters who are just as boy crazy as a Valley girl. This could be necessary, however, as Elizabeth Bennett was notably head strong.I liked the fact that the Darcy boys were black and were still considered Yuppi invaders. We know that's the case in some black circles where a lighter shade of skin puts a person higher on the hierarchy or desirability. It's never adequately explained why the Darcy parents picked Bushwick as their new home. They had lived in a smaller house so perhaps it was a matter of affordability. The grandmother, however, lives in what sounds like an even bigger mansion.It's rather hard to keep the character's straight. One of the sisters is away at Duke, and there's also the owner of the apartment, Madrina, who teaches Zuri what sounds like voodoo. There are, after all, originally from Haiti. Zuri also has a sister named Marisol. I still don't know where she fits in the family.

After nine years, the English translation finally comes out, and what a disappointment it is. I have this book in two other languages, and this version just takes way too many liberties that aren't true to the story or dialogue. Character dialogues are completely butchered and a lot of meaning behind a lot of scenes is lost. I'm frankly a little appalled that the writers are okay with this release.Fan translations have been better. Someone got paid to translate this, and poorly.I will be returning the book, as the translation quality is laughably bad.

Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile is a book of loosely connected episodic short stories that serve as epilogues to Final Fantasy VII, and prologues to Advent Children. There are seven in total each centered around a different character. I just wish there were more episodes to follow the rest of the cast like Reeve (Cait Sith), Cid, & Vincent. 4 out of 5

On the Way to a Smile is a collection of short stories set in-between Final Fantasy VII and Advent Children (though the framing device for one of the stories takes place after Advent). Overall, there are seven stories in this collection, titled "Episode of X".The seven stories follow Denzel, Tifa, Barret, Yuffie, Nanaki, Shinra (Rufus and the Turks), and the Lifestream. Each story generally reads the same as each character tries to find their place in the new world they find themselves in. Only the Episode of Denzel and the Lifestream follow a different format. For Denzel, the prose switches between post-Advent and before-Advent scenes as Denzel tells Reeves his story as to how he came to be with Cloud and Tifa. Episode of the Lifestream, however, is told with a single page following each of the other stories, telling what Aerith and Sephiroth were doing in the Lifestream and how the Triplets were created as they switch from their perspectives.Overall, I found On the Way to a Smile to be okay. While it does explore unexplained aspects from Advent Children, like who Denzel is and how Rufus Shinra survived, but the repetition of the characters wondering what to do and striking out in the new world ground me down over time. It also doesn't help that the prose is just...serviceable. It's not bad, just needed some more punch.However, I did like how the stories connected with one another. For example, Denzel's story ends as he contacts Tifa. Then, during Tifa's story, we actually get to see the incident from Tifa's side. I also feel Denzel's story was the best among them.

What a great collection! The english version tries its best, and succeeds in capturing the nuances of its Japanese counterpart. All are written in third-person limited, with each "section" focusing on one character. The original Japanese author has also posted about this on their personal twitter and approved of said translations. It's a must have for all FF7 fans, a great collection of novellas set before the events of Advent Children. It also includes beautifully rendered character illustrations in the beginning. With such a cheap price, it's a fantastic deal!

This book is horrible. If you like errors and misinformation or can look past them then by all means go ahead and read this book.I couldn't get past the first chapter. (Spoilers)If anyone has seen Advent Children we know its 3 years after the fact of the original game. If you played Dirge of Cerberus it's 4 years after the original game. Also by that point WRO is a military organization. So why in episode Denzel it's 4 years after? It makes no sense and in the original book it's 3 years after even in the short film it's 3 years afterwards. Major editing error? Who knows. But with an major error like that I could read the rest other than episode Shinra and that was ok.

I pre-ordered this book after seeing their booth at New York Comic Con. The stories are unique to each character and keeps you wanting more. I would only recommend this to those that have completed the game and have seen Advent Children.

I guess? I haven't heard him say anything about reading it, but he did appear to enjoy receiving it.

I liked Tifa's story best for some reason but the book was good enough for me to finish which i hardly do with these types of books. I am a final fantasy fan though, of course. Sephiroth and Aeris (:D) part was forgettable

I was disappointed in this book.I found Chapter 1 and 2 useful ("Getting Started" and "Everyday Designs").However, as someone wanting to learn the basic steps of flower arranging, I found the other 6 chapters irrelevant. These chapters, touching on how to make corsages, sympathy and funeral flowers, wedding bouquets, working with festive balloons, creating merchandise displays, and packaging for flower shops, seem directed more at professional flower arrangers. Yet by the time one has reached the stage of creating funeral and wedding flowers, let alone distributing them in packaging, one surely does not need a step-by-step instruction book.I found the arrangements presented in the book to be old-fashioned and boring.

She had a total of seven children and her book could not have been split up so the other six siblings purchase their own. Saw this book for years on my bandmate's shelf in our rehearsal spot. Finally grabbed it one day to put down some placeholder lyrics for a song we were working on and just fell in love with the words, with the prose, with the imagry and tone. I decided I needed it just to read, and at times, to inspire my own lyric writing.

Naturally Robert Frost because he's my favorite American poet, especially his masterpiece, The Road Not Taken, also Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and Mending Wall. This book now 'lives' on the living room side shelf.

I first owned this volume of poetry in 1978. That book simply fell apart after more than 20 years of reading and handling (sometimes roughly by my children). I replace this book with a new one just last year.The old favorites are all here; Fireflies in the Garden, The Road Not Taken, Fire and Ice, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, and a hundred more. In my opinion this is the definitive volume on Frost.I have always been awed by the number of poems Frost wrote about the stars. A Star on a Stoneboat, The Star Spitter, Stars, Canis Major and many others. Truly Robert Frost is the astronomers poet.Also in this volume is perhaps my favorite Frost poem, Brown's Descent.If you love reading Frost on a crispy fall evening, then you'll love reading him when the crickets chirp. You'll need to own this book.

I was definitely impressed by one of the greatest writers of poetry. Modern poets should read this and take not of somebody who had talent.

He averaged only 10 pages of poetry per year, but he stayed at it for 70 years, which is a truly remarkable achievement. And he won 4 Pulitzer Prizes for Poetry. There is something for everyone.

I know he is highly regarded, but his poetry makes me want to throw the book at the wall.

I'm in a position now where I will need a new job due to a pending relocation. I was lucky enough to have a few interviews a few months ago, but, ugh, I messed up both of them! I just know I said something "bad" that turned them off completely. The problem is, I didn't really know what I said that was so bad. Given the situation I am in, I knew I would need some kind of "help," and I'm extremely grateful to have stumbled upon this book. This may be the best, most useful $10 I have ever spent! I would buy it again and again if I had to. I was able to finally realize that some of the answers I had were really ridiculous. That infamous "where do you see yourself in 5 years question" has always thrown me for a loop, in particular. Now, I've got a brilliant answer to that question thanks to this book! I even feel like my job search is picking up steam, so there are more and more chances for me to secure that elusive offer. In fact, I might be close to getting an offer very soon! Even though my recent job search isn't done, I feel like I'm a whole lot closer, and I think I've got an excellent shot at getting an offer all because of this book. I'm not messing up my interviews anymore - YAY!

Add another tally to the author's collection of successful hires. After performing horribly on two recent interviews I bought this book for some much needed guidance. I was offered a job on my third interview using the suggestions in the book. I found the 60 second sell to be very effective and logical. I tend to ramble when I'm nervous so this really made me limit my introductory background information. Additionally, there is a comprehensive selection of hiring sample questions complete with effective responses which I found really helpful. I highly recommend it.
