Bought this as a gift for my P1. He enjoyed the read, but found that some of it he'd heard already from listening so regularly. Good book if you are cool with deja vu.

I was very excited to get this book, as I've been a devoted P1 since the day the station launched - but my move to California several years ago made it difficult for me to follow what was going on. Often times, I'd catch it online and would miss a lot of the jokes, so I'd have to call out to my P1 friends in DFW for explainations. I figured this book would not only share the history of how the station started, but what has been going on while I was away. Especially the Greggo fiasco.While I learned a little bit about the history and who was involved in putting the station together, I was disappointed in how quickly the book put that aside and moved on to current day goings on.Once it got into each show, as another reviewer said, it was the same stuff we've heard for years ad nauseum. If you're a fan enough to buy this book, there's nothing in there you haven't heard already. That's where I think the book failed. Instead of focussing on stories of each show or character, go into more details of the behind-the-scenes stories. I worked at The Ticket via an outside vendor and heard more stories those few days than I learned in this book.It's also written pretty poorly. No offense to the author, but some of the sentence structures are junior college level - at best.

I was listening the morning Skip Bayless signed on the first day in January of 1994. The station has the most loyal fan base as if they were a Local Team themselves. Very entertaining book that explains a lot of the organic greatness that was built and still dominates DFW airwaves today

Great history of The Ticket

Interesting look into a very popular sports talk radio station in Dallas. I was intrigued the whole time, good job!

Interesting read.

I like the radio station and their hosts but this was not that insightful and felt like a commercial for The Ticket. A bonus for me was the used book I got had autographs from several of the on air personalities in the front and back of the book

Over the years I have read quite a few swim books and this is definitely in the top echelon.Both the material and the format are excellent.The book is top quality, table size, printed on chromo paper and with excellent color graphics explaining and illustrating the text.The book is organized into three parts - technique, training and open water. There are also appendices on drills and work out plans and references to the Swim Smooth web site.I do not intend to summarize the contents of the book but I would like to point out two major themes:a. the Swim Smooth method has certain fundamentals but is not a one-size-fits-all system. It modifies these fundamentals to different swim types that they identify.b. Although never mentioned by name, the TI method is totally disputed and discredited by the authors. The Swim Smooth method is the antithesis of TI.It should be pointed out that this book deals exclusively with freestyle and with an emphasis on open water swimming. This is reflected in the fact that the underwater dolphin (a major freestyle pool skill) is not covered. Having said that, I truly feel that Swim Smooth will become one of those iconic swim books and is an essential addition to any swim library.Highly recommended.

I am a recreational swimmer who tried to relearn to swim better back in 1998 from Terry Laughlin's book. I have never been on a swim team to get good coaching advice.I have recently looked at a few new and old how-to-swim books. The newer advice is quite different from the older books which encouraged habits that can easily lead to shoulder injuries.1)A new book "Swim Smooth" has the most modern advice of all, along with a fine web site swimsmooth.com with a super free app you can download and watch from any angle and at very slow speed (esp from underneath to see the difference from the old S-shape recommended arm movement for the crawl). Looking through this book a few days ago already has led to a major revision of my freestyle.You can get the essential info from this fun book by just looking at the numerous pictures and reading the captions.My self-taught freestyle stroke has several major flaws, eg. I should not angle my hand sideways on entry which can injure the shoulder and I should not cross the center line on arm extension or pushback (some old books show the arm crossing horizontally under the body) which loses propulsion and leads to being off balance. The entry angle should be at a steep approx 45 degree angle and the hand should tip down for the catch right after full extension (instead of gliding more). And forget about a sideways scull and S-shape arm movement (update: I have added back a partial S movement which seems to flow better with increased speeds if you use fins, plus Olympic swimmers do that too).Anyway, the book "Swim Smooth" and web site (with the downloaded MrSmooth app) is my top choice for a relearn-to-swim-freestyle book for amateurs who have no coach.2)Next in line is the excellent second edition of "Fitness Swimming", pages 1-69, page 86, and pages 119-120 (the rest is workout schedules). This book has by far the best compact explanation of the theory and guidelines for the modern injury-free freestyle . It finally explained to me exactly how to accomplish the 2-beat kick as well as the unfathomable (from other books) 6-beat kick.3)Then there's the other modern swim book that I re-learned to swim from in 1998. Too bad in that book (or even his latest one) there is no good description of the arc the hand travels (ie. S-shape or not) or fundamental principles like the hand must always be inside the elbow distance (otherwise .. injury) and the similar dangers of angling the hand on entry, or of the merits of a steeper hand entry (but see his DVD below). Terry Laughlin's books (latest best all-stroke intro is called "Extraordinary Swimming for every body") have been adopted widely and I still would recommend this book as one of the several must-have's for someone still learning to swim better. If I was teaching someone to swim from ground zero, I would use the exercises to lead up to the crawl in that book's freestyle chapter (which are easier to see/appreciate in the bigger format "Total Immersion Pool Primer", basically drills in balance and body rotation) or in Terry's DVD "Perpetual Motion Freestyle in 10 Lessons", which teaches how to swim by progressive enhancement of fundamental balance and propulsion skills. The graduated drills are clearly demonstrated and the progression to developing the complete stroke and 2-beat flick kick is logical.4)"Learn to Swim in a Weekend" is a super compact (90 pages), all-picture guide to the major strokes plus turning and diving, about 8 easy to look at pages per stroke type. This is a fun book to look through and the pictures are superb in showing the essentials of each stroke.So those are the 4 most essential how-to-swim or how-to-relearn-to-swim-better books I've discovered.Then there's the very old swimming book "Swimming: Steps to Success" which has some bad crawl advice (which was considered good advice in the 1960's), but includes a few non-major strokes such as the sidestroke and the Double Trudgen which I'll learn sometime to amaze folks - I mean, who really knows that stroke nowadays other than ocean lifeguards! The third edition of this book has not changed from the very old first edition, so do not expect modern swimming advice.History: the first-ever "modern" swim book was "Complete Book of Swimming" by James Counsilman (1979) which authors since have liberally copied text from. This was "the" modern theory and how to swim book until the 1990's and has held up remarkably well, plus it's fun to see pictures of Mark Spitz's swim strokes.

This book is very easy to understand, well written and on the cutting edge of swimming. I have read many books on the subject of swimming and most try to get you to swim in one particular way. This is the first book that I have seen that encourages you to swim in the fashion that works best for you depending on a few factors such as body type, the particular distance that you are doing, and whether you are swimming in a pool or open water.I could not put it down and I think that it will be a best seller among swimmers, triathletes and their coaches. It is a must read! But the best part was that I was able to get it instantly for $9.99 on my kindle instead of pre-ordering for $19.37.One thing that should be edited is that on the kindle edition it is hard to read some of the captions on one or two pages.

This is an excellent book! I have this book on Kindle and find it to be invaluable. It's very well written, very insightful, and the authors do an excellent job of getting the point across regardless of your experience level swimming.Even though the title mentions coaching system, this book is a really good reference/instruction guide for swimmers of any level and anybody that's looking to improve for swim skills for pool or open water. Lots of well done illustrations and clearly written.I have been a big fan of the swim smooth approach to swimming. I think this is one of their best efforts yet. Highly recommend this book to swimmers and/or triathletes.

If there is only ONE swim book you ever buy, this should be it. I've made more improvements in the last month than in the past three years. This book is tailored to every swimmer and points out the weaknesses in your stroke. More importantly, it give concrete drills that help correct those stroke flaws. AND.. the drills work. The purpose for each drill is also pointed out. I can't recommend this enough. Better than any other swim instruction I've ever had. I swam a 7.5 mile swim last year...wish I had read this book prior to that!!!

Todd Conklin is a Senior Advisor at Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the world's foremost research and development laboratories, in the human performance and safety integration program. Dr. Conklin has been working on the human performance program at Los Alamos National Laboratory for the last dozen years of his 25-year career. It is in the fortunate position where he enjoys the best of both the academic world and the world of safety in practice. Conklin holds a Ph.D. in organizational behaviour and communication from the University of New Mexico. He speaks all over the world to executives, groups and work teams who are interested in better understanding the relationships between the workers in the field and the organization's systems, processes and programs. He has brought these systems to major corporations around the world. Conklin practices these ideas not only in his own workplace, but also in event investigations at other workplaces around the world. Todd Conklin is a great speaker and a great author. I have personally read all of his books now. He came to speak to my company earlier this year about Pre-Accident Investigations and there was a lot points (also stated in the book) that hit the nail on the head. I was stuck in the elevator with him for about a hour before our meeting and we spoke a good bit on his studies, overall very interesting and great on so many levels.

Todd Conklin did a great job at taking what can be a very complicated topic and making it easily understandable, even for those with little to no background in organizational safety. The book is a top-notch publication with a plethora of quotable quotes, or Toddisms as I came to think of them. I have had the pleasure of being a student of Dr. Conklin's on several occasions and was pleased to see that his sharp wit and seemingly endless humor was integrated, in a very classy way, into the learnings contained within his newest book. I have the hardcopy, but ended up buying the Kindle version also for ease of reference when in-the-field. This is a book that I will end up reading a number of times over the years and highly recommend it to anyone that has an interest in protecting their organization against the many things that could possibly go wrong in a complicated world.

Great book that helps clarify the need to conduct systems analysis and to do good risk assessment work.

Great book by the one and only Todd Conklin. This book lays down the fundamentals of “The New View Of Safety” for people wanting/needing to change how they look at Safety.

This is a very readable book and is ideal for a short course. I am making it required reading for our QA folks.

So far, the book has been useful in my understanding of the topics. The explanations and and calculations are done well and don't seem to have the bad habit of glossing over the details. The author doesn't assume much prior knowledge beyond KVL/KCL stuff and even at one point briefly reviews Thevenin's theorem. My only qualm so far is that the table of contents and the index are pretty useless in finding a specific thing. An electronic copy would probably alleviate this.

If you could only afford one electronics text, this is it! I've reviewed over 40 texts for our library acquisition clients, who can afford only 4 in many cases. Boylestad always makes the top three, and with this 11th edition, I can say with confidence that ALL the kinks have been worked out. Most every other text starts out WAY too fast, and still has numerous, frustrating errors.But that's not the major plus. Boylestad is a master teacher and storyteller. The picture of that lonely copper electron sitting out in it's own shell with gangs of family members in the adjacent shell will never leave you! While other texts are grinding you through integrals, Bob is gently explaining in PRACTICAL ENGLISH and with hundreds of illustrations and pictures, how and why it all works. His 12th edition of circuit analysis, for example, starts at the High School or tech level, yet still gives enough technical detail for use in Engineering courses (Introductory Circuit Analysis (12th Edition)).If you are at MIT working on your PhD in Electronics Engineering, you'll not find a lot of matrix calculus, linear algebra and dynamic systems analysis using differential equations, because Boylestad targets his teaching to both self study and technology courses, and assumes you're starting at the beginning. However, if you ever want to teach, you should still study this, because his approach is a model for explaining difficult concepts with wonderful examples that you finally "get" at a gut level. I guarantee (as an Engineer myself), you'll grasp concepts more intuitively here even if you are very advanced.Perhaps the best and most unique feature are the two authors' ability to describe, step by step, what a circuit is doing and why. You learn early on that voltage is a type of information signal, and you can extend the detailed descriptions to many other circuits almost immediately, because you REALLY GET the basics. They spend a lot of time on timers and op-amps, for example, as backbones of many IC strategies. Every page you go: "AHA! So THAT'S why that component is there!!" Just started a Electronics course so I bought this book. I can say it is a great book. Very friendly and the topics are clearly explained.Definitely recommend the book.

Used book was exactly as described; shipped promptly and packaged adequately.Editorially, the text was selected because I liked the author's Circuits text. Both are, to me, great beginner's textbooks and useful for self-study. They begin at the beginning, are thorough and even have a practical bent, examining some electrical or electronic product in every chapter. Will probably later work through Hayt, which I've read has a more mathematically rigorous level of presentation.
