First off, I have to admit I did not know who Coach Wooden was. It was not until his passing that I heard about him and his many, universal acknowledgements in his leadership. That's when I looked on Amazon and ordered 2 of his books, including this one.If you are in a leadership position (people mgr, coach, head of household, etc), then I would say this is one of the best books on leadership ever written. I read >20 business books a year so that is not a statement I say lightly, including many other ones that has greatly shaped me as Ken Blanchard's Leadership at a Higher level, etc. However, Wooden's book here stands out like a tall mountain, in that he goes straight to the point, bares his heart & values in full transparency, and is genuinely unselfish in sharing his wisdom. Other books tend to glorize the author and his/her book concepts too much, but in this book Wooden shares it without any attempt to bask himself in the spotlight. Jamison does a great job in the writing style of this book and I wished more business/leadership books were like this. His points are easy to understand, stimulates thoughts in your own situations, and made me hungry to read more. In the end of this short book, I found his words helped me improve my leadership styles/skills greatly, identified gaps where I need to improve, and overall more inspired to be the best leader I can be - which is precisely what coach Wooden set out to do. This is an invaluable book that clearly communicates what this great man believed in - that all of us owes ourselves to give 100%, and be the best we can be. As leaders we need to teach that to our team, and if we do that effectively, winning will come as a byproduct automatically.highly recommended. I can't say more.

When it comes to leadership and team building, few professions compare with the ranks of organized sports coaches. From the ranks of coaching we have been given a vastness of leadership training with which to shape and improve our lives. Every venue of athletics has made its' coaching contributions. From football, we have the hard nosed precision of Vince Lombardi and the stoic presence of Bear Bryant. Baseball has given us the lighthearted leadership of Casey Stengal and the chess game cunning of Jim Leyland. Boxing has produced such brilliant motivators as Lou Duva and the no-nonsense yet compassionate Eddie Futch. And basketball has been no exception from the explosive emotionalism of Bobby Knight to the intensity of Pat Summitt. Wooden explains why each component is a part of the pyramid and why it is located where it is within the pyramid. There are also bits and pieces of letters to his teams as well as brief comments from his former players throughout the book.I don't believe this is the best book with Wooden's name on it, but it is certainly, as expected, filled with sage advice ranging from simple profound statements to more complex principles of leadership, team building and ultimately, success. If you appreciate, as I do, that the coaching profession has produced some of the greatest leaders of the last century and you want insight from one of the best of the best, you'll appreciate this book.

Johnny Wooden has published many books, but this one is not so much about basketball as it is about how he formed his great chracter and passed it on to others under his leadership. Every member of Congress should read it and apply it and if they did this country would be a lot better off! Wooden's records are a direct result of his discipline and how he transferred that to his players on and off the court. Kind of funny how they left a ginormous part from the movie out of the book- basically about how his flying started. Probably because in the movie he got drunk leading to the parts of him learning to fly. Otherwise it's cute. Not as much animation in this one with characters talking, but the narrator is really good none-the-less.

This was a great book that allowed you to get a good feel for the upcoming movie. As you read and listen to this CD you will know what to expect as you watch this exciting new movie. I loved hearing the voices of the actors from the movie as well.

I've been eagerly awaiting the arrival of my copy of 100 Christmas Wishes: Vintage Holiday Cards from The New York Public Library.The book starts off with a foreword from singer Rosanne Cash."These Christmas greetings from the vast collection of holiday cards in the New York Public Library postcard collection capture the abiding, universal impulse to connect with friends and loved ones at Christmas....In some ways they were the social media and email of the early twentieth century: brief messages dashed off quickly, to acknowledge and maintain connection and affection".The cards are from 1887-1944 and are from 12 different countries. What they have in common are the beautiful, detailed images - and the truly lovely sentiments. They're all a tribute to a kinder, simpler time. Nature scenes, children, adults and of course, Santa, are found within. I was hard pressed to pick a favorite. It was only on flipping to the last image, that I found the 'notes on origins'. This appendix details (if available) the date and destination the card was mailed to. I would have liked to have found this information on the same page as the image, rather that finding it at the end and flipping back and forth.And there was a bonus surprise at the end of the book - removable vintage postcards that I will be framing and making part of my Christmas decorations - or maybe I will surprise a friend and mail them one.100 Christmas Wishes will make a wonderful keepsake gift for anyone on your Christmas list - or maybe for yourself!

Let me make this clear, I have never played in a band or in school, I had a few lessons as an adult but pretty much am learning to play my trumpet on my own. I view many lessons on YouTube but I am not at this level yet. This music is above what I am capable of playing at this time. I have gotten through the first two Getchell books but I have not mastered them. Thought I would try out this book. I need to revisit them until they are easier to play. I think I in a little over my head on this one.

Nice arrangements of some interesting pieces with great demonstration tracks. Offers a nice addition to the MMO series.

I got this book after getting a tip about it from another trumpet playing friend of mine. He uses it with his students.. and now I use it with mine. The selections are perfect for someone who's been playing for a little while and is looking for some great material to play with their piano playing friends. Many of the pieces in here could be used for school band instrumental competitions. They might require a bit of work to master... but they are all possible with practice. Perfect for backround music for formal occasions as well... weddings, formal parties, etc.

Other than the annoying announcer before each title on the CD, this is a very well written book, with a lot of helpful background information on each piece.

This is the first time I have taken a week to read a NR book; however, this book was so different. I could not just bang through it.The timing on this book was emotional. The book starts with a mass shooting in a mall. I read other reviews that said the book seemed preachy, I thought it was pretty realistic. It is a very slow moving romance, the couple does not even meet until the 50 percent part of the book.The book was thorough on developing the characters and how and why they turned out like they did. It was extremely well done. There were parts that made me uncomfortable and brought tears to my eyes. So kudos to the author.I am at the point with NR that I am only reading her single release in the spring and the JD Robb books. While these were very familiar personality characters, they stood on their own. I did not give it 5 stars, because while the story was very well done, this is not a book I would go back and re read. There was not a character I loved. I felt all characters just moved the storyline, I didn't connect like I thought I would. I ended up not caring for Simone, and the Chief, well he was okay, I just didn't see why he loved Simone. The romance didn't connect for me, maybe b/c I didn't like Simone. And it could be silly little things like, why does there always need to be some form of witchcraft or mystical junk in the book? It is a little too patterned and predictable that way for me to push it into 5 stars.I liked the town, I loved the place. The book was emotionally wrenching, I am glad I read it.

Wow. Terrifying and heartbreaking, and in true Nora R fashion, draws you in until the characters are right there beside you, smiling, crying, breathing. The romance took a bit to heat and discover, but that's actually okay. I loved how we saw each character develop, and what made them do as they did, and also into the people they were. It's actually BETTER the romance part waited, because neither was ready for it until then. Ms. R is fabulous with relationships, especially family ones, and here, I would say the family IS the romance, the love, if you will. From the 'traditional' family structure to the hero who made his own family, it all was so well done I wanted to be Sim or Essie's sister and especially CiCi's granddaughter!This is a story of rebuilding, moving on, and growing. Not just maturing but actually growing and of PTSD, something so rarely is spoken of and acknowledged. Each character fought his/her own demons and battles. Some won. Some didn't. But all changed from who he/she was at the start to who he/she was at the end. And that's the hope we all have, isn't it? To simply LIVE life the way it should be lived, even when bad things happen.While the villain is named almost from the start, the motives and things which shaped are so compelling you ALMOST want to reach out and try to help. In a world where this could all be tomorrow's headlines, it sends a powerful message of hope, rebuilding, and love in all its many forms. And that there are simply some people beyond help and truly 'soulless' who could live right next door. Well, well done. Ms. R.

I received a preview of the first chapter of this book several months ago a n immediately put it on preorder even though the release date was further in advance than I usually buy. But, hey, Nora Roberts. This book has a similar format as the Witness which I really liked, although I found the subplots in the witness much more entertaining. (I’ve never really found living in the mind of the killer very compelling, although Roberts manages it with her usual flair.)There is no real mystery here as we know the killer very early on. The suspense comes from catching the killer. Readers of the “In Death” series will very much enjoy this one.

This is my first truly unhappy review of Nora's books. I almost quit about 1/3 in and forced myself to keep reading, it had to get better. I kept waiting for Reed and Simone to connect and it didn't happen until halfway through. This is one I'll have to read again soon, but I will skip over the horrible time spent in the mind of the villain, the awful things she did and just read the good (IMHO) parts. Some may like delving into the psychopathic mind of a truly awful villain, but not I. Nora doesn't do it often, but it's not for me.

I spent the first 30 pages saying damn you Nora, because I was crying through the trauma of emotions conveyed. I would think she spent hours talking to victims to capture the the real feelings of surviving a mass shooting. Though this is a fictionalized story, I was glad to see an author with a international presence such as Nora Roberts bring it to the fore front. I did yearn for a political statement on it, but that's not Nora nor the point of the book. I can see others being upset that the events of this book evolve from a mass shooting. However, why not? The antagonist is not your typical suspense novel nutcase. Its not some make serial killer raping and maiming women and that is nice departure from that overused trope. The madness of the antagonist is explored as well, giving us why to all the killing.Overall I liked it and was not disappointed nor was reminded of other stories written by Nora

This was a great story and I had a hard time putting the book down. I cried during several different parts. The beginning was heartbreaking and so very timely with what is going on in our world today. I loved that as the book progressed through the years from the mass shooting we were able to see how the main characters grew and changed and how that tragedy affected their lives - whether it was their family dynamics or friendships or romantic relationships. The flip side of that was watching how the villain of the story progressed through the years - the additional tragedy that she caused and the coldness in the way she did it. That character was chilling and I will say that I had more than one nightmare the first night after I started reading the book. I enjoyed all the characters very much, but CiCi was my favorite. This book is definitely worth reading.

Thankfully, I borrowed this "book" from the Prime library. It was more like a lengthy advertisement for the actual South Beach Diet book and contained little useful information.
