This was a very quick read — I finished it in a day because all of the stories were so captivating yet also relatable. I love how the book encourages you to Work It in a way that is both comfortable and authentic to you as an individual. The author’s confessions of introversion and how she never let that hold her back make her all the more likeable. I would recommend the book to other women as I think there are highly useful tips no matter what stage you are in your career.

This book is a gem! Carrie Kerpen makes you feel like you are sitting together chatting over coffee with some of the boldest women in business (including her!) From the beginning, Carrie makes it clear there is no one-size-fits-all, and there is so much wisdom in this book to find what works for you. I immediately bought another copy for my daughter who just graduated with her Master's Degree. I highly recommend!

Carrie does such a wonderful job of providing empowering, useful, and digestible tidbits in such a manner that if I could have eaten this book up with a spoon I would have. Her narrative and way that she showcases some pretty incredible women made the book SUCH an easy, fun read. I put this book down feeling (and knowing) I can conquer the world. I bought this book to read while on a trip to Maryland, and before I got there I was eager to head back to use the techniques. Mr. Finch certainly knows his stuff. He explains things in laymen's terms to make it easy for newbies and non-technical people to understand, but thankfully doesn't go into too much depth regarding the entire ins and outs of a VPN. I'm sure a lot of networking books have this, but for getting a VPN up and running on the Raspberry Pi, I feel that information isn't needed. As being somewhat familiar to Linux and the Raspberry Pi in general, I am now more familiarized with more of the Linux commands thanks to this book.The price of this book is a steal for the content and assistance you get. He has a dedicated website to this book including error corrections, updated information regarding SSH at boot with the Raspberry Pi (critical for a VPN), and provides a forum where he provides answers and feedback on a very timely basis. I don't know of any authors that provide that kind of "customer service" so efficiently. Highly recommended.

This book is a great for building your very own VPN server with a Raspberry Pi. The instructions are clearly written and when followed, do exactly what is expected. Ira has done an excellent job of maintaining supporting information and files on his website that make copying and pasting code with WinSCP very easy - with no mistakes. He also includes code that checks for changes in your VPN's IP address (that your ISP will periodically make) and alerts you with an email. But Ira offers more than just clearly written instructions to build a RPi VPN. He is extremely helpful and committed to ensuring your success with this project. When I followed his instructions explicitly I ran into a problem that turned out to be non-trival. Ira was very helpful and diligent in helping me figure a work-around that ultimately resulted in a working VPN server. He spent nearly two weeks exchanging emails with me to resolve the problem. Needless to say this extended well beyond my expectations!

What can I say I love playing with these things. This model is faster, but it is laid out exactly like the last model and will fit your old cases too! All the other projects can be done with this model. It is worth the few extra dollars to have the speed. AS with all Raspberry pie units be sure what every you are adding to this board is made for the Raspberry pie. Not all knock offs will bring good results I know this personally.

The best how-to I've ever done. Easy to understand instructions even for beginners with raspberry pi or the Linux command line. My skills are average at best and I built my server no problem. Whenever I hit a snag, I would email the author, Ira. The responses I received were almost immediately and he helped me resolve any problems I was having. Great book and even greater support!!

This is a very well written book and every command is accurate and well commented.I was able to follow the instruction and set up my VPN server in a couple of days of spare time.Due to my typing errors during the setup i had to use the support from the author.The support was excellent and the author took his time to support me until it was working.My best recommendation and to the book and thanks Ira for your help.

I've used a website [...] to "automate" the installation, setup, maintenance of my home VPN server on one of my Raspberry Pi's. It was interesting to see it work, though I myself didn't know what was going on (wasn't very transparent). I wanted to be a bit more hands-on in the setup, maintenance of my home VPN. Then I found this book which fit my requirements to a "T" ("V"?). The author provided a step by step explanation of what was being done and why. His website provides valuable additional help and updates. The author is accessible for Q&A on his websites forum. This book has helped to make me a more informed home VPN user.The really cool thing about this book also are the sections about 2-factor google authentication and setting up email updates on your system events. I Now use 2-factor authentication on all my Raspberry Pi's (9 total: B1's, 3B's, Zero's Zero W's) and automatic email updates on system events for all--like updating the hosts file. It's really neat to learn this stuff and to have learned enough to adapt it to other projects.

The conditions are appalling: “If you prick your finger and bleed on the cloth, you’re fined. If it happens a second time, you’re fired,” and more. While the men at the factory don’t think girls are strong enough to strike, Clara proves them wrong, eventually leading the “largest walkout of women workers in U.S. history.” Markel’s informative text buzzes with details of the oppressive conditions and neatly plays up Clara’s can-do spirit, but she perhaps tries to cover too much territory, and as a result, omits some crucial explanations (e.g., why can’t Clara’s father get hired?). However, Robert F. Sibert Medalist Sweet (Balloons over Broadway, 2011) creates punchy, vibrant collages that make up for any shortcomings. The zingy images masterfully (and appropriately) incorporate fabric and stitches as well as old images of checks and time cards. Get a jump on Women's History Month with this new picture book about Clara Lemlich, a remarkable 20th century labor leader. Picture books about early 20th century Jewish women labor leaders are not exactly published every day in the picture book universe, so I was especially eager to read this new work, illustrated by award-winning illustrator Melissa Sweet, about Clara Lemlich, best known for organizing the shirtwaist makers' strike of 1909.We first meet Clara as she is arriving in the United States, part of the mass of immigrants. But Clara is different--she's "got grit, and she's going to prove it. Look out, New York!"Social justice is an overriding theme of this book, and we see through Clara's eyes the injustices of life in early 20th century America for the impoverished immigrants. "This was not the America she'd imagined." Girls are hired to make blouses for a few dollars a month, wages desperately needed to help support their families. Markel vividly describes the factories in just a few words--only two toilets, one sink, and three towels for 300 girls to share, and better not be a few minutes late or bleed on a piece of cloth if you've pricked your finger or you'll lose half a day's pay or even be fired.But little Clara Lemlich is not one to sit back and take it. She organizes strikes, and despite being arrested repeatedly, and beaten, she is not easily silenced. But she realizes that a general strike of all the garment workers is what's needed to make the bosses stand up and take notice, and at a union meeting, she calls for women to launch the largest walk-out ever.Clara is the leader of the Revolt of the Girls, as the newspapers call it. And eventually the owners meet some of their demands, including a shortened work week and better wages. Markel ends her elegie to Lemlich on a hopeful note, emphasizing how Clara's actions helped thousands of workers. "proving that in America, wrongs can be righted, warriors can wear skirts and blouses, and the bravest hearts may beat in girls only five feet tall."An afterword provides further details about the history of the garment industry, and the role of Jewish immigrants in the business. Strangely enough, Clara is never identified as Jewish in the main text of the book, although she is shown shouting in Yiddish for a general strike. Back matter also includes a selected bibliography of general and primary sources. I would have also liked to have seen something on Clara Lemlich's later life. For example, she continued advocating for the oppressed her entire life, even helping to organize nursing home orderlies in the retirement home where she spent the end of her life.Melissa Sweet's remarkable illustrations integrate the garment industry in a very literal fashion into her depiction of Clara's life. She uses watercolor, gouache, and mixed media, and pieces of fabric and sewing machine stitching are front and center in nearly every illustration. Some of the illustrations are particularly moving, including the one in which rows and rows of factory workers are shown from directly above, with the hundreds of girls appearing faceless and indistinct from each other like cogs in a wheel. I also loved the "girl power" illustration of Clara calling for a general strike--Sweet depicts Clara from behind, with hundreds of people in the audience raising their fists in solidarity and with her call for a strike in an oversized text balloon, with the word "Strayk!" (or strike!) in bright red lettering!This is a must-have for anyone interested in exposing their children to important issues and people in the social justice movement, as well as outstanding women in history, those who chose to try to make a difference in an era when women were encouraged to make their dominion at home.

In my Kindergarten class, we are doing a unit on "Change Makers" which got started with Martin Luther King Jr. I wanted to include other change makers that helped inspire change through non-violent action. I am so excited to be including her in my unit. Nicely illustrated, and simple enough for my 5 and 6 year old students.

Beautiful book, great mixed media illustrations paired with clear writing. It's a bit wordy for a picture book, but works great as a read aloud (which is why I bought it.)

I love this book. It is a part of the history of our nation and shows what immigrants had to endure in order to survive. The illustrations are wonderful. I loved this type of book as a child and think that todays children would really enjoy it.

This book ended really well but caused me a bit of grief at times. I strongly believe in raising children by Biblical standards, but the author spends a good deal of the book focusing on "how grandma would've raised her children" and not a lot time on Bible principles until the end. I would've expected a lot more Scripture along the way for a book with this title. There are many good points he makes along the way but just because Grandma did it doesn't mean it was right Biblically. He comes off very harsh at times. In the end, I love what he says about good parents are basically good leaders. He made me think along the way but I can't say I agree with him on all points.

AMAZING. Made all the difference with my 2 and 4 year old. I wish I would've bought this book 4 years ago! Every chapter is full of parenting wisdom I've been so desperately trying to find. I've always felt like a frazzled mother but this book has changed everything for me. It teaches you to become a successful Christian leader/mother of your children. Post modern psychological parenting methods have made parenting SO much harder than it has to be and has created a disaster in it's wake.

As I read this I was thinking, "Why didn't I have this book when our child was born?" You certainly don't need to be a Christian to get the good from it. I order copies of this book to give to everyone who's getting married. I tell them, "Don't wait until you have children to read this, it may help preserve your marriage long enough to have children. If so, it will likely save your marriage again afterwards."By the way our local newspaper quit carrying Mr. Rosemond's syndicated column, which is how I first learned of him. This is unfortunate, since one of his columns is worth nearly all the editorial pages with the comics thrown in.

Love this book! With a master's in science I have been fed the majority of the psycho babble lies for my young adult years. This book gave me a better understanding of why these progressive ideas didn't feel right once I started my family. Plain simple biblical advice, the principles I was raised with that gave me a strong work ethic and a love and respect for people and the Lord.

John Rosemond has a no nonsense approach to discipline that is based on biblical principles. His advice is nothing fancy or complicated...just simple rules to follow. He tells parents what they need to hear...advice grandma of yesteryear would have given (advice we have forgotten) . I look forward to reading more of his books.

As a fifty-something parent of three grown children, now raising a six year-old; I have to say that parenting today is a whole different world. The down-to-earth, "Grandma" wisdom (old-school Bible principles) offered in this book is exactly what is needed today. It is a refreshingly clear and simple guide for parents swallowed up in the chaos and confusion of modern parenting. This is good, godly advice.

Wonderful, sound Christian advice for parenting. I wish I had read this when my first was a baby instead of waiting until he was 4. I would highly recommend this to any parent who is constantly questioning their parenting decisions and wondering if they are going to somehow psychologically damage their children if they don't choose the "right" methods of discipline and guidance for their kids. Really, really sound advice that will help you embrace your role as a parent and be confident in the task God gave you - knowing He has equipped you with the skills to lead your children up in the way they should go.

We had had a copy of this book for a number of years and used it in counseling parents in the school with which I was associated. It is a helpful tool in counseling parents.

Such a fun book. I was hoping for old-timey or creative recipes that I didn't know. It contains recipes like "Romeo and Julep", no different from a mint julep but it's a cute name. It's still nice to have, and makes a great gift

I should have looked for the size in the description. This truly is "mini". If you like this idea you should just purchase the regular size. I can't see any use for this.

This book is hilarious! I gave it as a birthday gift but I kind of want one for myself. Tons of cocktail/drink recipes based on books you know and love...or hate! LOL.Each one has a brief review (? not really but kind of) of the book before listing the ingredients and directions for the drink.Very fun gift for anyone that loves books!

Love the recipes, and the variety: simple, complex, sweet, tart, bitter etc. The literary puns were spot-on, and I liked the idea that the drink could match both the themes at work in the story, and sometimes even the literary criticism surrounding the novel. The suggested games at the end were very funny, and the illustrations also added to the whole presentation.My only complaint was the way the cocktails were arranged into male/female categories.Really??Couldn't they be group by flavor, main alcoholic ingredient, literary genre, date of publication?Not only was having two categories unhelpful in terms of finding drinks, it's a little insulting to divide drinks by sex.All in all it was a lovely book, and I can overlook the classification for the most part.

Bought as a gift for my coworker who is an English teacher. If you know anything about English teachers, then you know they love literature and they love to drink.

Robert Kurson's excellent look at the 1968 voyage of Apollo 8, "Rocket Men: The Daring Odyssey of Apollo 8", has already received excellent reviews on Amazon, so I can add very little. However, I will say that the writing is low-key but compelling as Kurson writes about the politics, the people, and the history of the United States space program. He also details the race - what we knew was happening - between the US and the USSR. The Soviet launch of a moon rocket forced the United States to put forward the Apollo 8 flight well before schedule, so we could go to the moon and circle it. Not actually land - that came later - but to circle it. Even though I know the turnout, I really kept expecting things to fail spectacularly.This is a book for any armchair historian and/or science junkie. I also think it would make a great Audible book and I've already preordered the Audible version at the good price of $14.

I just finished “Rocket Men”. It is a rare thing for me to sit and read a book in a few days but that is what I did with this wonderful book. I have read a lot of books about the space program and even about Apollo 8 to the point that I was not finding anything new or interesting anymore. However, "Rocket Men" is like a whole new story of Apollo 8 and I especially loved the new things I learned from it such as the story behind the picture of the execution from Vietnam, Bobby Kennedy, and other such tidbits that spiced up the adventure of Apollo 8. Telling the story of the three wives was intriguing. I had never read about Lovell’s mistake with the navigation. After all the space books I have read I can honestly say that this is absolutely one of the very best ever produced.
