The book itself is fine but it's very outdated now. Many of the places have moved or closed. I'm sure it was great at the time, but four years is a long time in the restaurant business.

As an avid WWII reader, I’m always looking for the next good book I can sink my brain-teeth into. For the past little while I’ve been “catching up” on accounts of the Eastern Front (I use to read only Western/Southern Europe accounts) and then almost exclusively from the Landsers point of view. Some of the best first person perspective reads I have experienced are Guy Sajers’ “Forgotten Soldier” and several of the Stackpole publishers books such as “Tigers in the Mud” and the Panzer Aces series… basically as of late I like a clean read of what-was-happening in the field as opposed to statistics of “how many” and precise dates (I’m pretty sure I’ve covered those statistical books a few hundred times already).So on the list of good reads, I put this one at 4.5 stars. The reason not 5 was that it is a thin book, so it reads pretty quickly, and I believe Sepp didn’t write it himself, instead he was interviewed for his story and someone else wrote it up for him so some interpretation comes through. Still, this was the first book I have read about any Sniper/Marksman activity during WWII and I found the perspective refreshing, even if the subject matter is rather intense. To that point, the descriptions of atrocities that Sepp observed are some of the more disturbing that I have read in many books, and I understand that they were uniquely so in that in my excitement to share what I was reading with a friend I found that I would fall way short when trying to describe them and must have appeared a bit kookie in finding any joy from such abominable subject matter. So with a fair warning for not reading this on a full stomach I give this a two “thumbs up”!

"Sniper on the Eastern Front" confirms all the horror stories that one has read and heard about the war on the Russian Front in World War II. It's an enlightening memoir and chronicle of how a young German soldier became a one of the most highly decorated Wehrmacht snipers fighting the Russians and all the ordeals he and his comrades went through. It provides insights on tactics and skills developed by both sides in the fighting as well as the terrible ordeals German soldiers went through. It does provide convincing anecdotes on how barbaric the Soviet soldiers were toward their enemies, civilian and military, On the other hand it could be pointed that The main criticism is that the book is a little light on the ordeals that the German army put the Russians through in the course of invading the Motherland. It provides a weak justification for a "preemptive" war against a Communist dictatorship, although Stalin would have certainly liked to take out Nazi Germany and the West as a whole at some point--although it is highly improbably that it was planned for later in 1941 as the book asserts. Another revelation provided by the veteran sniper is the extent to which German troops on the Eastern Front used and appeared dependent on an early methamphetamine drug developed by Nazi scientists to keep their armies going and alert in face of the exhaustion and continued stress of battling the dogged Russian army.

Sniper on the Eastern Front is the heartrending biographical memoir of Josef “Sepp” Allerberger, an Austrian farmboy who served as a marksman (a word preferred over "sniper" by Wermacht soldiers) in the German Wermacht Alpine Division on the Eastern Front. This book is outstanding on two levels. First, as a biographical memoir of the Eastern Front during WWII, it's a brutally honest portrayal of a 19 year old soldier's loss of innocence and youth as an infantryman in a doomed army. As such, the ugliness of war and the graphic twin evils of Fascist Germany and Soviet Russia at each other's throats are plainly described using the unique vehicle of viewing life through the telescopic perspective of a German sniper. And secondly, this book is a genuine historical relic of sniper development, capabilities and techniques in the German Army circa WWII. For these two reasons I can happily award this book by German historian and arms expert, Albrecht Wacker, five stars. The book does have a few shortcomings. There are a few cases where incorrect English military words are used. The German Army disliked the term "sniper" and used the German word for "marksman" in its place. American military veterans, for whom the word "marksman" merely denotes basic competency with a rifle, will take a while to get used to this substitution. And there is one glaring moment when the POV shifts unexpectedly from a third person historical narrative to a first person personal narrative. Both of these issues may be the result of difficult translation work from the German to the English language. Also, this is a "warts-and-all" view of life as a soldier. No veteran would be shocked by the way soldiers discuss issues like defecation, sex and killing. But some people won't get it and may find the descriptions to be too over the top for their sensitivities. Albrecht Wacker has done a real service in recording Mr. Allerberger's experiences. This book is highly recommended for students of war, sniper operations, WWII history and for those who just love a good, historical war story. Highly recommended.

This well-written book presents the most horrific depiction of combat, wounds, death, mutilation and appalling atrocities I have ever encountered in print, and I have read many accounts of warfare. However, most of the other books, letters, reminiscences and the like only mention the dreadful acts whereas Mr. Wacker describes the violence and its effects on the mind and body vividly. Given the intricate detail recalled and the years which have passed since their occurrence, one might question Mr. Allerberger's memory and Mr. Wacker's literary license. Nevertheless, the 178-page book read like a 500-page one. After two or three pages of unremitting gore and violence, I found myself having to put the book down and clear my head.Ultimately, I question how anyone exposed to such horrors can ever reintegrate successfully into society, or even maintain a tenuous grasp on sanity. If you have the stomach, it makes for morbidly fascinating reading.

This book is awful. If you know anything at all about music, don't buy this. It's less than 50 pages with massive font and double spaced so there's only about three sentences on a page. There's absolutely no music theory and everything else is all the most basic information that you can learn for free online. The last chapter is called "Play a Song", it's less than 2 pages and all it tells you is to go to uketabs.com to learn songs. This book is not worth the money. Unless you literally have never touched an instrument before, you won't learn anything.

Don't waste your money...this is the worst book I've ever seen. It's like the preface to a book. In regular print on computer it is only about two pages, but it is presented in humongous print , with humongous margins. Total waste of money.

I love the song, "Over The Rainbow" and through that song, I also fell in love with the ukulele. I never knew where to start, and by buying this book, I finally have some guidance. I picked up an old ukulele and have been slowly teaching myself the beginner ukulele techniques. I suspect that I will be able to play adequately by the time I'm done thanks to this book!

I have always wanted to learn to play the ukulele so I am glad I picked up this book. This book contains great tips on selecting your ukulele and how to tune it along with what strings to pick out. This book truly includes a great deal of information. Highly recommended book.

This book would confuse anyone, especially beginners. For one, I'm glad that this was not the first ukulele book I picked up. This ukulele player has read over twenty ukulele books, on the web, down loading ebooks (like this one), and finding old ukulele books and music at garage sales. Now, First things first: In the ukulele community the instrument is not considered a little guitar. Second, please stop referencing the ukulele instrument with the guitar. Throughout the ebook, the author sounds like a guitar player. Third, the strings are numbered from the floor-up as 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Not the other way around. Very confusing beginners ebook. Also, please provide pictures for placement of the chores. And for heaven's sakes, just because someone plays an instrument doesn't mean that you are proficient in other instruments. Plus, this ukulele player doesn't speak for communities and/or societies of the ukulele realm. I gave you two stars for referring a good web site and the strumming chapter.

How could anyone improve on the Chronicles of Narnia? C.S. Lewis is first; Tolkein is second. No one else is even in the same game. This series is intended for children, but really, much of it is wasted on the young. Read the books to your kids--or any kid you can shanghai--they'll love them, but you'll love them more. I hope the movies will be worthy of the books.

The Complete Chronicles of Narnia (text only) by C. S. Lewis,P. Baynes I bought this copy because for one, I personally did not want a "movie tie-in" version, I wanted to have a hardcover edition that contained all of the books in one that I could keep for years and pass down to my children - in short, good quality, tasteful, with pictures.It was described as being "Used - Good", but it arrived in excellent condition (no noticeable tears on the book itself with only slight page wear). This version came with a book jacket which is identical to the hard cover itself, so I threw away the jacket which was well worn. Also, the book description says "text only", which is strange, because this copy has tons of the original illustrations in full-color (I'll try to post pictures soon).I feel like I hit the jackpot with this purchase and I highly encourage everyone to get this copy ASAP, because I've noticed the price of the "all-in-one" books skyrocketing lately (Barnes and Noble used to have a "leather"-bound copy for $20 three years ago which is $100 now). I sure hope these books don't go out of print, but if they do, you'll be glad you purchased this particular version, because it'll be passed down the family.

This is a beautiful paperback box set of the Narnia collection, that so many of us grew up with. The covers are nice, thick and protective of the pages inside, which are of good paper stock. I have no print fading or errors that I've noticed.The art on the outter box is beautiful on all sides, with a little read up at the top. For paperbacks, I believe this is the way to go! Highly recommended!

 This is a really lovely storybook collection based on all seven books in the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Those include: “The Magician's Nephew”, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, “The Horse and His Boy”, “Prince Caspian”, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, “The Silver Chair”, and “The Last Battle”. As the coloring book is slightly longer than average size and there are seven books covered, each is only touched on lightly. The coloring book can be used as an fun addition while you are reading the stories but it does not replace them.The designs are based on the original artwork by Pauline Baynes from the books written and published in the 1950's. In some cases, the artwork has been turned into what I call “wallpaper” style designs with repeated patterns.The designs include considerably more black in shading than usual for coloring books. That is because the original artwork was just that – artwork and not coloring designs. I've found that utilizing the black as shading is what works best for me with this type of design. I've run across it before when original artwork has been presented in this format.On a personal note, the designs bring back memories from my own life. I was a big fan of these books as a child and I would read them over and over again. Once I had children, I would read books to them before bedtime each night and this was a favorite, especially of my late son. He also would read the books over and over again on his own.I am now looking forward to reading them to my grandchildren and I will now also have a book of designs that I have colored to go along with them. I will admit that coloring these designs is a bittersweet experience as I spend as much time thinking of my son as I do in coloring.This is what I found as I colored in this book and tested the paper with my coloring medium. I was able to get good color with multiple layers of the same shade. I was also able to layer multiple colors and blend well using a pencil style blending stick. Both oil and wax based pencils worked well.

Love these books, but the font size is much too small on the Narnia Box Set (with movie pictures on box, linked below). It is advertised as for Grade 3 and up, but likely only Jr. High and older would be comfortable with this small of a Font Size. We are surprised that Harper Collins would publish such a small text Font Size, knowing that many children would be their audience.***It would be very helpful if Amazon would include the Font Size in the product description for books and other literature.*** (Surprised that they don't already include this.)Chronicles of Narnia Box SetWe are sending this box set back regrettably, and instead ordering this 2000-published box set, which is a couple inches taller, hoping it has an adequate font size for young readers (link below). I really enjoyed the overall plot and the language is modern and enjoyable, I read it in an afternoon.

I needed this book for an online class that I was taking last semester, and I enjoyed reading this book. It's a short read, and whether or not your in school, you will enjoy the content of it.

It explained a topic that has been on my mind for a while,Objects and feelings, a commentary on the human soul.On how art enthusiasts justify their behaviors as 'art' no matter who they may harm.

This was my first exposure to Neil LaBute. I bought three plays, and I can't wait to read the others. The Shape of Things is very thought-provoking, and I see in his characters many truths about humanity. Buy the book. You won't be sorry.
