The author does a great job explaining how to start providing medication-therapy-management (MTM) services as an independent pharmacist consultant, and goes step-by-step explaining the different services you could provide a pharmacy, doctor's office, or accountable care organization. She gives solid tips and uses her experience to prevent us newbies from making rookie mistakes.In addition to the explanation of how to provide these services, the author goes into depth about how to market yourself as a consultant, and how to use social media to your advantage. I think pharmacists (including myself) may excel in providing clinical services, but feel shy and nervous when it comes to promoting themselves.But lets's be real--can you imagine working behind the counter forever? Some people do, and some people retire with big name chains or big box stores. Sorry, I graduated in 2015, and the thought of retiring 30+ years working as a pharmacy manager makes me want to run away from home, set up a hot dog cart in Bermuda, and pharmacy be damned. And I love pharmacy, patients, helping people, etc.So let this short, informative, easy-to-read book inspire you like it did me. I guarantee you won't be disappointed in the purchase. Since I've bought the book, I've already started applying the knowledge in order to start my own consulting business.
This is a great introduction of how to start a pharmacy consulting business. Keep in mind that the author is a pharmacist and not a lawyer/financial expert. Do not expect a detailed how-to on how to start a business (in fact, she actually mentions how she worked with others to work on the business side of her business as it was something she had to learn as well). Expect to feel inspired to take your career into your own hands and find ways to do what makes you fulfilled. This was especially important to someone like me who is already feeling the burnout of working retail pharmacy. This book is full of great tips and tricks that I would have not thought of when starting a consulting business. The biggest pro is you get to learn from someone who has actually went through the process. The biggest con is that she does use the book to market her website and business coaching services (which I have no doubt that it is very useful as I have seen many of her webinars and read her blog), so for more detailed information, I would point you in that direction.Overall, this is a very inspiring book and a great starting point for someone looking to do something different with their pharmacy career.
Picked the book up and started reading. Not ideal for pharmacists who have been out of the community game who are looking to take their clinical skills in a different direction because there isn't detailed 'how to.'
Just finished reading this and I am officially PUMPED! I've been increasingly disappointed with the corporate retail world, and I can't wait to get my feet wet with independent consulting. Blair's book is an excellent starting point for any pharmacist wishing to expand his/her horizons.
Well written, well organized book on what you can do with your pharmacy degree besides count, pour, lick, and stick. Thank you, Ms. Thielemier for a great blueprint on starting a pharmacy consulting business. You have given me some great ideas and helpful guidance.
The book offers some good ideas and perspectives but it seems the important practical stuff is reserved for the ecourse that you have to pay for.
This book really helped me a lot on deciding what I wanted to do. It will also reference you to good resources for more information you probably hadn't even thought to look for on your own. It's great info and you really shouldn't pass it up for the price you can get it for!

Dr. Thielemier lays out the steps to starting a successful consulting business, drawing on her experiences with a successful, efficient business model.
